Dr. Pirnia attended college at Wright State University near his home town of Dayton, Ohio where he graduated magna cum laude. He graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and he completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Program centered at St Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco. This was followed by a fellowship in complex spinal surgery at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, a center that specializes in spinal deformity surgery as well as performing hundreds of routine operations for disorders such as spinal stenosis, lumbar and cervical disc herniation, spine tumors, and spinal trauma.
His practice covers the breadth of orthopaedic spine surgery including the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Areas of expertise include minimally invasive spine procedures, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal deformity and scoliosis, complex spinal reconstructive procedures, spine trauma, and revision surgery. He has a broad background in the care of non-operative and surgical spinal disorders in both adults and children.
He also has extensive training and experience managing general orthopaedic problems such as hip and knee arthritis, orthopaedic fracture care, and nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Pirnia believes in an innovative and holistic approach to medicine. His focus is always on individual patient’s well-being, preventative medicine, and when necessary surgical intervention. Dr. Pirnia is a member of the North American Spine Society. He lives in the East Bay with his family.
